28/09/2010 - Desertification in Mongolia and northern China has been a serious concern as the Gobi Desert encroaches on the surrounding areas. Some people say? this is due to climate change but others think overgrazing by growing goat herds is the cause. Either way, the problem warrants publicity and action. read more.. |

Traute Macom has criss-crossed many deserts during the last 20 years. Her first contact was with the "White Desert" of Egypt. She instantly felt the same as those who discovered the desert for the first time: beauty and threat. Then came the Namib, the Atacama, Gobi, Taklamakan, and the Sahara deserts, which she traversed first in 2005 from Casablanca to Dakar and in 2009 from Tripolis via Ghadames to the Akakus Mountains in Libya. read more.. |
